Not you, too, baseball?!

Major League Baseball removed references to “diversity” from its MLB Careers home page following an executive order by US president Donald Trump that could lead to possible federal action against organizations using DEI programs in violation of his administration’s interpretation of civil rights law.

“Our values on diversity remain unchanged,” MLB said in a statement Friday. “We are in the process of evaluating our programs for any modifications to eligibility criteria that are needed to ensure our programs are compliant with federal law as they continue forward.”

The removal of the references was first reported by the website cupofcoffeenews.com.

Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred, who launched a Diversity Pipeline Program in 2016, said following an owners meeting in Palm Beach, Florida, last month that MLB was evaluating the interpretation of law coming from the federal government.

I am so angry about this.

Have I begun harassing the baseball commissioner, Rob Manfred at: 1271 Avenue of the Americas, New York, NY 10020?

Yes.

Here’s what I wrote:

As a new season ticket holder this year I am appalled at your decision to scrub diversity from your website.

You say it’s to comply with federal law, but the ultimate federal law is the constitution the first amendment to which (the FIRST) is that “

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

Nothing the current president orders can force Congress to violate this. And if they tried I’m sure the judiciary would have something to say about it.

It doesn’t matter if you “remain committed to diversity” in your programs if you voluntarily muzzle yourselves about it.

For an organization that was starting to make progress on these issues, you have broken trust with us by caving in this.

I love baseball but look around, when you are at a game. It’s the whitest of white crowds—disproportionately so—and you have a long way to go if you hope to restore the title of “America’s pastime” in anything more than an ironic usage.

The changes you’ve made to the game over the past few years have made it fun to watch again, but the change you’ve you made this week has me questioning whether I should return my season tickets and whether I should even watch the game any more.

I hope to see a reversal of this policy, as you consider how harmful it is to our country to voluntarily comply with the outrageous dictates from the office of the president.

Do better.
