Hi,
I received my new computer last
week and have been creating CD's of my electronic book. I brought them
with me last night to a writer's workshop.
They were a great hit! That has been my dilemma with my electronic
books--how to market and sell them when I speak. Selling them over the
Internet is easy, but when you speak you have to have a physical product
to put in the hands of those who attend. The CD and Jewel Case cover
were very simple to make and I was able to put additional speaking
information, etc. on the inside cover.
My only question was what to do
with the other 79 MB of available space on the CD. : )

Hi Suzanne,
Ooo, that IS interesting. There are
so many possibilities, such as:
 | recording spoken-word sections
of the book in the author's voice |
 | adding a short audio/video interview with the author |
 | including excerpts of upcoming titles or other
products you sell |
 | including flyers, brochures or ads for your other
businesses (are you a public speaker? Do you offer marketing
consultancy?) |
 | selling ad space to authors with similar titles (you
could create an HTML web of book pages, or a Powerpoint pack'n'play
presentation) |
 | creating a print-out work-book to go along with a
self-help book (could be created as PDF) |
 | adding related public-domain books, downloaded from
Project Gutenberg (http://promo.net/pg/).
For example, a sci-fi writer could include what is arguably the
prototypical Sci-Fi text: Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. Perhaps your
book, about writing, could include a copy of Little Women, with its
'can-do' writer heroine, Jo. |
 | including a hyperlinked, cross-referenced HTML
version of the book |
 | include links to freeware on the web that has helped
you promote your book - CGI form scripts, free message boards, weblog
software, associate programs etc., |
 | adding free additional materials - source lists,
bibliographies, further reading, all the good stuff you gathered in
your research but couldn't fit into the flow of the book... |
Good
luck and let us know how it goes!
