About sixteen years ago I read a book by one of my all-time favourite writers, Douglas Adams. He and a naturalist (and a team of BBC radio producers and sound folks) had headed off to find examples of some of the most threatened creatures on the endangered species’ lists. Adams’ title was not lightly chosen: Last Chance To See…
Today I read that one of those species, a dolphin no less, is now considered probably extinct as a recent survey failed to turn any of them up.
Douglas is gone but it would have been nice to think that his work could have outraged enough of us to save one of the species he was privileged to find. And record. (There was a condom involved. Read the book.)
